Circuit bending is the creative, chance-based customization of the circuits within electronic devices such as low voltage, battery-powered guitar effect, children’s toys and digital to create new musical or visual instruments and sound generators.
Emphasizing spontaneity and randomness, the techniques of circuit bending have been commonly associated with noise music, though many more conventional contemporary musicians and musical groups have been known to experiment with “bent” instruments. Circuit bending usually involves dismantling the machine and adding components such as switches and potentiometers that alter the circuit.
Part of my concept has been to use only second hand and recycled devices and most times to keep the original casing and aesthetics to give widen image of bended and original purpose of use. Many of the children`s toys are gender directed to boys and girls and as direct signals which are the gender roles. Present interest is to create “Domestic Silence” project with toys which clearly show domestic sings and aesthetics.
